Bruce Tobey
Bruce Tobey served as the Mayor of Gloucester for nine years — from 1993 until 2002 – which also included Gloucester’s 375th-anniversary celebration. A practicing attorney, Bruce returned to local government in 2006 as a City Councilor until 2014. Throughout his career, Bruce has worked on numerous Federal Advisory Committees for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, President of the Massachusetts Municipal Association, and Chair of the Advisory Council of the National League of Cities. He also served as the chairman of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Local Government Advisory Committee, the Commonwealth’s Federal Stimulus Task Force, and Massachusetts’ Water Infrastructure Finance Commission. Bruce’s deep love for Gloucester and wealth of experience are invaluable to the steering committee for Gloucester400+™.
Ruth Pino
A successful businessperson, Ruth is a lifelong Gloucester native and 30-year real estate agent with Re/Max Advantage. She knows every nook and cranny of Gloucester and is well-versed in the city’s rich history. Ruth is also known as a “Dynamo Leader” since the days she was President of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce. She is known to get things done, always using creative ideas and a positive outlook.
Ruth’s abiding commitment to the community led her to work for the City of Gloucester in many capacities. A member of the Affordable Housing Trust and the Economic Development Industrial Corporation (EDIC), member and past president of the Gloucester Rotary Club, Ruth also chairs the 21st Century Gloucester committee. Her appreciation of the past, service to the present, and commitment to Gloucester’s future are essential to planning effectively for Gloucester400+™.
Robert Gillis
Robert Gillis has lived and worked in Gloucester nearly his entire life. A graduate Gloucester High School, after college Bob began his career as a teller at Cape Ann Savings Bank where today he is president of the bank and responsible for roughly $625 million in assets, three branches, and over 80 employees. Always community-minded, Gillis has served on charitable and civic boards throughout his career. He is now President of the Board of Harborlight Community Partners, a member of the Board of Gloucester Fishing Community Preservation Fund, and a member of the Rockport Rotary.
Gillis greatly values Gloucester’s diversity — its working waterfront, traditions, outdoor spaces like Dogtown and Ravenswood, beaches, and natural beauty. But his favorite aspect of Gloucester is its people.
