Honoring Our History: Canon Dedication Ceremony

August 25, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join the Gloucester 400+ as we unveil the city’s newly restored Replica Cannon and reflect on the bravery of all those who fought for Gloucester and our freedom.

After living on the USS Constitution for 100 years, this cannon was gifted to Gloucester in 1931 during the Constitutions’ last visit to our harbor. Having noticed the disrepair this piece of history had fallen into, local resident David Dow took on the arduous restoration project to give this local treasure new life. Dow’s dedication has enable Gloucester, her residents, and her next generations to embrace our city’s connection to the USS Constitution by respecting, caring for, and restoring this piece back to her original condition.

Come participate in this historical event as we kick off our celebrations for Gloucester’s 400th year. Featuring presentations by State Senator Bruce Tarr and other featured guests, the community is invited to learn about the history of the replica cannon, the process of her restoration, and Gloucester’s deep connection with the USS Constitution.
