SMOKE SIGNALS
Indigenous Heritage Film Festival Feature Length Film
This classic coming-of-age drama debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 1998. Ten years later, it was incorporated into the National Film Registry. Written, directed, and co-produced by Native Americans, Smoke Signals represents a milestone in Native filmmaking and representation. Based on a collection of short stories by Sherman Alexie, Smoke Signals celebrates the struggles and triumphs of two very different young friends, Victor, the stoic son of an alcoholic father, and Thomas, a quirky storytelling orphan.
