In Her Footsteps: A Walking Tour of Judith’s Neighborhood

July 8, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

11:00 am -11:45 am. Free this weekend but reservations are required.  Registration information and details are found at www.sargenthouse.org.

In the period following the American Revolution, Judith Sargent Murray became an important voice for women’s education and equality.  Join us for a one-hour tour of her historic Gloucester neighborhood and explore the places and events that helped shape her as a wife, mother, and a woman clearly ahead of her time.

Stops along the tour include the garden of her elegant Georgian mansion, the nearby Unitarian Universalist church with its Paul Revere bell and once heretical beliefs, the modest home Judith shared with her husband and  mother-in-law, the house built by her grandfather, and the home of American Revolutionary War patriot Joseph Foster — all places with stories to tell about the life and times of a remarkable woman.  The tour covers about a half-mile and is an easy walk with comfortable shoes.
