Interwoven Exhibit Opening Reception

June 10, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Interwoven: HIV/AIDS Long-Term Survivor Stories & Connections

North Shore Health Project and Rockport Art Association & Museum are proud to present, “Interwoven: HIV/AIDS Long-term Survivor Stories & Connections,” a new spatial justice art project created by long-term survivors of HIV/AIDS living on the North Shore. This unique collection of handwoven and crocheted panels was created by North Shore residents with HIV/AIDS as a means of claiming space and visibility for their interconnected community resilience, strength, and pride. This is the first time this project will be fully displayed to the public.

The majority of artists are from Gloucester and Cape Ann and are clients of the North Shore Health Project. The exhibit will also include a quilt memorializing Gloucester residents who were lost early in the AIDS epidemic.

Founded in 1988, the North Shore Health Project in Gloucester has been supporting the health and well-being of people living on the North Shore for more than three decades. Originally formed by friends, loved ones, and those impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, over the years NSHP has grown to include client advocacy, case management, syringe exchange, community education, overdose prevention, testing for HIV, STI, and Hepatitis C, and LGBTQ+ services.
