A Glimpse into Lanesville & Folly Cove Arts:
Les Bartlett’s Journey Through the Archive
Saturday, July 15th at the Lanesville Community Center
8 Vulcan Street, Gloucester
**********************************
Drawing from the historic, published list of artists found in Barbara Erkkila’s “Village at Lanes Cove,” her original manuscript for the same book and Cape Ann archives, Les Bartlett presents a single day of discoveries, anecdotes and stories of how Lanesville and Folly Cove were at once the home and seat of inspiration for art and artists through the 19th and 20th centuries.
The LCC will be open from 12:00pm – 5:00pm for the viewing of new materials found of historic artists who lived in Lanesville or Folly Cove and the opportunity for conversation with Les Bartlett about the individuals.
At 3:00 pm, Les will give a captivating talk
on some of the artists (Guest Speaker, Heather Atwood).
Come and Enjoy the Exhibit & the Talk!
It’s a time to reflect on how the natural beauty of Lanesville’s and Folly Cove’s granite coastlines and inland forests drew artists to summer and live here, along with being at home in the hardscrabble, but culturally rich, communities who fished, farmed, and quarried granite here.
